Kudos To Don Jacobs on the Moonlighting Blues Story on KPD in the Knoxville News Sentinel

Today’s Knoxville News Sentinel has a four page multiple story on the inner workings of the Knoxville Police Department and the organized, orchestrated moonlighting efforts of the department.

Major props to Lt. Robert Hembree (now deceased) and Lt. Tony Willis for their Courage of Leadership in not faultering in their pursuit to ensure that right things are done the right way.

Don Jacobs in my opinion is the best crime / law enforcement news reporter in the region. Jacobs commitment to research and investigation to this issue should be help up as the example of a journalist following the story to the end.

While KPD travelled many, many miles out of their jurisdiction and officers were disciplined fof it. This blog in the last several weeks exposed Knox County Clerk Foster Arnett a County Elected Official using KPD officers more than a mile outside their jurisdiction at a cost to the county taxpayers through the excess fees of the clerk’s office. Interesting to note, Arnett was the former PIO for KPD during a less than stellar time in KPD’s history, a time when Phil Keith was the Police Chief and Victor Ashe was the Mayor.

There is a KPD scheduler organizing the moonlighting gigs out in Halls for Arnett. Read the two stories here and here.

Of course on the day my source went into the Halls office to secure a picture before I submitted the Open Records request, the security being provided was not flattering of the moonlighting efforts. It was at 1:39 pm, a little late for lunch.
