Webb School Director of Development Announcement
Dear Webb School Community,

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Hugh Nystrom as the school’s new Development Director, effective March 2017. Hugh’s appointment follows an intensive search that took place this past fall and winter. He is currently Director of Program Operations, Development and Community Relations for Childhelp, Tennessee in Knoxville.

Hugh is a Class of 1985 Webb School alumnus. In addition, he and his wife, Angelia, are the proud parents of Trace, a fifth grader in our Lower School. Hugh brings to Webb a wealth of non-profit executive and professional fundraising experience. At Childhelp, he has been responsible for the design and implementation of all fundraising activities, including annual giving, major gifts, events, planned giving, and grant solicitation. During his tenure, Hugh significantly expanded and improved Childhelp’s fundraising efforts and grew the agency’s services by more than 100 percent by adding additional fundraising events, an annual giving program, direct mail campaigns, and federal, state and local government appropriations. Under Hugh’s stewardship, Childhelp’s service capacity increased from 600 children per year to more than 1,300 children, annually.

Prior to Childhelp, Hugh had a 14-year career with The Walt Disney Company, working in multiple leadership positions in resort management, guest services, and sales and marketing. In his last position with Disney, he was responsible for developing the sales and marketing campaign for the Southeast region, leading a territory that generated more than $17 million in total revenue, annually.

A graduate of University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a bachelor’s degree in finance from the College of Business Administration, Hugh is a recognized leader in the Knoxville community. In 2016, he was elected Knox County Commissioner, representing Knox County’s 4th District. He is a 2010 graduate of Leadership Knoxville. His other community involvement includes serving on the University of Tennessee College of Nursing Advisory Board, the Community Coalition Against Human Trafficking Task Force, the Executive Committee of the 2014 Congressional Medal of Honor Convention, the Board of Directors of The MUSE Children’s Museum, the Junior League of Knoxville Advisory Board, and the University Swim Club Board of Directors. Hugh is a member of Nucleus Knoxville and the Knoxville Downtown Civitan Club, where he previously served as president. He is also a Cubmaster for the Boy Scouts of America.

We’re honored to have Hugh join our administration. It’s both wonderful and gratifying to be welcoming an alumnus back to campus in such a vital role. Hugh brings an abundance of experience, a love of Knoxville, a passion for development, and an insightful understanding of Webb School.

Please join me in extending a warm Webb welcome to Hugh.

Sincerely,

Michael McBrien
Webb School President
