Susan Horn’s Comments are Unacceptable on the Farragut High Suicides

From the Big Metal Shed on the Hill website, “School board member Susan Horn, whose 5th district includes Farragut, said there was much more going on among school officials behind the scenes than what was shared with students or parents.”

“I’ve heard from several parents that feel the administration is doing a very good job. I’ve probably heard from more parents who think they’re doing a good job.”

Horn failed to voice or show any remorse or concern for the families and friends left in the wake of three high school suicides in her district.

Students are losing their lives while she and school officials are meeting behind scenes and NOT communicating to parents and students. She says she has “probably heard from more who think they are doing a good job” Well, let’s open record request her school board emails from her Knox Schools laptop, personal laptop, text messages of a school nature from her phone and all school related emails, communications in any form received.

The students that showed up in the school parking lot to remember and talk about A***** on Monday night and the students that have pushed for a public discussion before one more life is lost are the real leaders. At one time when I was a School Board Member, Knox County had an internal video that instructs personnel not to discuss suicide because it glorifies it. I disagreed then, I disagree NOW. The real leaders are the ones that Ryan Siebe and school officials are now moving in the right direction.

Thursday night at Farragut High public meeting is a good move in the right direction, if they had done it in January, two other students may not have had to die.
