State Representative Kent Calfee Creates New Business Opportunities For Licensed Professionals

(NASHVILLE) — Throughout his time serving as a member of the Tennessee General Assembly, State Representative Kent Calfee (R-Kingston) has worked tirelessly to enhance employment opportunities and create new jobs for hardworking Tennesseans.
During the 2017 legislative session, Calfee sponsored passage of the Freedom to Prosper Act. This initiative stops local governments from creating new occupational licenses and encourages new business opportunities for those who are already licensed to work in their respective professions.
The Freedom to Prosper Act is the latest in a series of measures that has transformed Tennessee into a clear-cut leader in the national push to reform out-of-control licensing laws that hinder job growth and stunt new business opportunities for licensed professionals. In 2016, the Republican led General Assembly passed the Right to Earn a Living Act, which returns occupational licensing to its intended purpose of protecting the public from risk and also promotes business competition.
“We want our industrious men, women, and families to have an opportunity to pursue their business goals and dreams without having to worry about bureaucracy and red tape that can hinder their endeavors,” said Vice-Chairman Calfee. “The Freedom to Prosper Act promotes job growth, opportunity, and competition; this not only benefits our local communities but also our state’s economy. I look forward to continuing our work in 2018 so that Tennessee remains an economic model for our entire nation to follow.”
Kent Calfee serves as Vice-Chairman of the House Business & Utilities Committee. He is also a member of the House Government Operations and Joint Government Operations Committees, as well as the House Business & Utilities, Joint Government Operations, Education, Health, & General Welfare and the Joint Government Operations Judiciary & Government Subcommittees. Calfee lives in Kingston and represents House District 32, which includes part of Roane and part of Loudon Counties.
