The Knox County School Board Needs a Civics Lesson

A reporterette at the daily paper has an article in today’s 1/13/2018 where the Knox County School Board is complaining that local legislators “ignore” them, so they must spend $37,500 of OUR tax dollars.

First of all NONE of the current school boarders are teachers (active classroom teachers). The legislators districts are designed to represent one man (woman). Most house districts have in excess of 50,000 residents and state senate districts have about 2.5 times that number.

So let’s look at each school boarder and who they have a voice with.

Gloria Deathridge has Rep. Rick Staples and Senator Becky Duncan Massey

Jennifer Owen has Rep. Eddie Smith and Senator Randy McNally

“Black Wednesday” Tony Norman has Rep. Roger Kane and Senator Richard Biggs

Lynne Fugate has Rep. Smith and Senator Massey

Susan Horn has Rep. Jason Zachary (who she is related to by marriage) and Senator Massey

Terri Hill has Rep. Roger Kane and Senator Briggs

Patti Lou Bounds has Rep. Bill Dunn and Senator McNally

Mike McMillan has Rep. Harry Brooks and Senator Massey

Amber Rountree has Rep. Staples and Senator Massey

So, Rep. Martin Daniel is the lucky one (the winner of the lottery) not one of his constituents is an elected Knox County School Board Member.

In the article Jennifer Owen repeats her hurt feelings that she was NOT allowed to attend a meeting with a legislator and teachers. Guess what Jen, you are NOT a teacher! Because you quit teaching and became a school boarder does NOT make you an expert so that you can go in and try to take over a teachers meeting and take away the teachers voice to Rep. Eddie Smith with teachers that teach in his legislative district.

When will Jack McElroy and the Big Metal Shed on the Hill quit the one sided bashing of the legislative delegation?
