Breaking: Schoonmaker Abruptly Resigns the Knox County Pension Board

UPDATE: I learned that Schoonmaker attended the Pension Board meeting when the settlement agreement was debated and voted on at that meeting Schoonmaker voted NO. Apparently, he did not want that debate to occur at the Commission meeting this coming Monday October 22, 2018, because he voted NOT to add it to the agenda. Now, he has resigned the pension board. Is it because he didn’t get his way and left? Or does he have political aspirations and does not want to ruin it over a pension issue? I have texted him on his Knox County taxpayer supplied cell phone, when he calls or texts me back, you will know.

I learned yesterday that County Commissioner John Schoonmaker resigned from the Knox County Pension Board on October 8, 2018. The timing of this resignation raises some questions.

1) the County Commission reorganizes all their boards and committees the first of September every year. If Schoonmaker had other responsibilities that would not commit his time to serve, why did he NOT know that a few weeks ago?

2) The Pension Board met about 6 days before his resignation to discuss and vote on a proposed settlement of the Knox County lawsuit against the Knox County Retirement and Pension Board.

Additionally, this past Monday 10/15/2018 Schoonmaker joined with Commissioners David Wright, Carson Dailey and Charles Busler in rejecting the pension settlement from being discussed at the next Commission meeting Monday 10/22/2018.

I have text messaged Schoonmaker on his Knox County supplied cell phone for an answer to why he resigned. When he provides an answer, you will know.
