Smart Trips makes riding the bus more accessible

Knoxville, Tennessee – January 3, 2020 – Starting in 2020, Smart Trips is making riding the bus easier by adding Knoxville Area Transit (KAT) bus passes to its online shop. Participants who log at least one alternative commute per week on the Smart Trips website or app are automatically entered into quarterly drawings for $50 and $100 gift cards. The quarterly gift card drawings offer prizes to local businesses, including Tomato Head, Bliss, Aubrey’s, Café 4, Three Rivers Market, Mast General Store, and Regal Cinemas.

Recently, an online shop was added to the Smart Trips website, allowing participants to redeem their points for items like t-shirts, sweatshirts, and water bottles instead of using those points to be entered for larger prize drawings. By adding KAT bus passes to the online shop, Smart Trips staff hopes participants will be able to translate their efforts to make alternative commutes into cost savings.

Started in 2002, Smart Trips is a free online program that rewards people for driving less by providing incentives for people to carpool, vanpool, bike, walk, take transit, telecommute, and work compressed schedules. Housed within the Transportation Planning Organization, Smart Trips is a program designed to ease traffic congestion and improve air quality in the region.

Offering more opportunities and accessibility is important as Smart Trips continues working to improve air quality and traffic issues in our region. To find more information about the program and to sign up, visit the website, here
