Did a Charter Review “Sunshine” Violation Occur Last Night?

Earlier today, I posted this story with videos from last night of Commissioner John Schoonmaker and Commissioner Evelyn Gill discussing changes to the Charter Review.

It was an answer to a question of all candidates at the League of Women Voters of Knox candidate forum and both are candidates for Commission. However. two nights before Monday 2/3/2020 when the Charter Review met in its first organized meeting. They were briefed by Knox County Law Director Richard Bud Armstrong about NOT talking to one another without noticing the intent of discussing the Charter.

Based on what I heard Armstrong admonish the committee. He said when a chance meeting (this in my opinion is one) the members should be brief and DO NOT discuss the Charter.

In my opinion, Schoonmaker and Gill should have declined to answer the question based on their membership and requirements of service on the committee.

The sunshine law violation correction will be easy enough to correct at the next meeting on 2/10/2020. However, this should serve as notice to ALL committee members that they are being observed.
