Breaking News: Knox County Commission Cancels March Work Session

This was sent to me by Knox County Commission Chairman Hugh Nystrom, a letter to Commission canceling the March work session.

Good Morning Commissioners,

My hope and prayers go out for each of you in these interesting times that have been thrust upon us by the impact of the coronavirus, COVID19.  I don’t think any of us in our wildest imagination thought we would be dealing with pandemic considerations as part of our service as County Commissioners.

While I don’t say this enough, I wanted to share how much I enjoy working with all of you. Our commission has come a long way in demonstrating leadership to the community.  We debate, review, pass legislation, and ultimately act in a manner that reflects what we each believe to be in the best interest of our community.   With that in mind, I have made the decision to cancel this month’s work session and Chairman’s briefing scheduled for March 23, 2020.

I am in contact with the Mayor’s office to review the items on this month’s agenda that need to be passed to insure the operations of Knox County Government.  Suffice to say that any items that are not essential to operations will be postponed.  Based on the outcome of this determination, I will make a decision on the need for us to have the full commission meeting that is scheduled in two weeks on March 30th, 2020.

I anticipate that we will be using the Commission forum in the near future more frequently. Additionally, I have asked Zach to review options for conference call/video conferencing for use in the future.

Ultimately, our first and foremost concern is for the health and well-being of our constituents and our community as a whole. This will require us to find innovative ways to carry out our duties to Knox County. Thank you for your willingness to be flexible as we navigate these uncharted waters
