When the PUBLIC Could Care Less

Nine Knox County Commissioners, Nine citizens selected by the nine Commissioners and Nine citizens selected by Mayor Glen Jacobs all appointed in December 2019 to the Charter Review Committee. A committee that meets every four years. The Committee works through the Knox County Charter, proposes changes to be presented to the voters to cleanup or change the Charter.

They’ve met and worked I mean fought and finally get to two items to go to the voters. BUT before they can vote to put them on the ballot, they must have public hearings. The first was Monday at 5:30 pm, the second one is tonight and after that hearing the Committee  will meet to cast the final deciding vote.

Monday’s meeting lasted about 15 minutes, no public was there. Committee Member Mike Arms said we didn’t even get the Compass here. Maybe Jesse Fox Mayshark did what I did, he watched it online.

The two items for the VOTERS to decide whether to change the charter are;

1) all contracts signed by the Knox County Mayor of $100,000 or less will be placed on the County Commission agenda. NOT for approval, but for information. A effort for greater transparency first proposed by Charter Review Member James Corcoran.

2) Allow for an appointed Knox County Law Director.

    For one, nobody on the Charter Review Committee seems to give a rip whether the Knox County Charter is Defacto or not, so why should the public care WHAT they do?
