Ftn. City Focus is Slightly OFF Focus

The publisher of the weekly newsprint formerly named the Fountain City Focus spent a good amount of ink blasting State Rep. Gloria Johnson who interestingly represents a good portion of North Knoxville into South Knoxville.

I too disagree with Johnson often, however, I wouldn’t slap around the teaching profession as he did. I do believe there are a number of school employees that are never treated as well as teachers, but hey that argument is for another day.

The Publisher and I have similar experiences to draw our editorial positions from. We are both one term Knox County School Board members. He from 1996-2000 and me from 2000-2004,

I did serve half of my one term as the East Director on the TN School Boards Association Board of Directors and as Vice Chairman of the Knox County Board for one year in addition to being a board member.

Where I really take issue with the Publisher on Johnson is his only taking her account on “officegate”.

As I understand it from my sources in Nashville, Rep. Johnson’s assistants things are in a closet, because they are being stored while the assistant is off work, she has been off work since July 2020.

When the Assistant returns to work, an appropriate office space will be assigned to the Assistant. Of course, the Publisher could try and verify with sources as I did. But he didn’t. So it what it is.

Gloria Johnson
