One Last Thing on “the daily paper” and the Civil Right Violator Victor Ashe

On Friday, I posted this story about “the daily paper” and the parent company wanting to sell the property and building they own and then have a decade long leaseback arrangement. In that story I also wrote about the deal that former Mayor Civil Right Violator Victor Ashe along with Knoxville City Council gave “the daily paper” in a PILOT (Payment In Lieu of Taxes) deal to locate out of downtown to the current location of Western Avenue and Middlebrook Pike area.

The one other little thing (that several people have asked about) is about how the former Mayor use to write for a weekly publication called the Halls Shopper, it got bought by “the daily paper” and they had the former owner and all the writers continue writing for the paper. Then multiple “the daily paper” reductions in force had the former owner and several of the writers all laid off. However, “the daily paper” have kept the former Mayor, through multiple Publishers and Editors authoring and publishing a weekly column.

Of course the material in the weekly columns have been a constant criticism of former Mayor Madeline Rogero, Mayor Indya Kincannon and now the focus appears to be Knox County Republican Party Chairman Daniel Herrera.
