When a Trusted Advisor Differs With His Advisee

At tonight’s Knox County Commission Work Session, the discussion on the change of the development plans being reviewed by the appointed Board of Zoning Appeals was held and the work session vote before next weeks Commission meeting.

Enter one citizen at public forum this evening, Robert “Bob” Thompson a citizen of South Knox County’s Ninth District. A former member of the Knox County Board of Zoning Appeals representing the Ninth District (likely recommended by County Commissioner Carson Dailey) Thompson after serving for a time, resigned and moved on. However, he has continued to be active in the community. He has opposed the removal of development plans being reviewed from the Board of Zoning Appeals.

County Commissioner Dailey voted to move the change forward to the Commission meeting next week, opposite the stated positions of Thompson, his constituent and former BZA Member for his district. Thompson wants it redone. That would not be odd without one other detail.

Thompson has been Dailey’s campaign finance treasurer for Dailey’s entire political career. Granted Dailey is term limited and only has two years left on Commission. The financial disclosure that Thompson and Dailey jointly filed last month (July 15, 2022) show that Dailey has $814.65 on hand, however he has an outstanding loan of $1,450.66. So, Dailey can rely on Thompson to handle the campaign finances! But ignore his positions on land use issues? Odd for sure, in my humble opinion.
