“Price will not seek Office of Dist. Attorney General”

Last night Knox County Asst. District. Attorney Leland Price made a surprise announcement that he will not seek to be elected to the Office of Knox County District Attorney General currently occupied by Gen. Randy Nichols (D). Nichols announced his retirement some time ago. Instead, Price announced he would seek the election of Criminal Court Judge Div. III. currently held by Judge Mary Beth Lebowitz., who also has announced her retirement.

When asked by this reporter, Price said, “My background and demeanor are best suited for the bench. Much of the job of Attorney General is administrative and I’m more comfortable in the courtroom.”

This seems to leave open the door for Charm Knight, who has not made an official announcement but has made known her intentions to run for the Office of AG on the Republican ticket. She has been making the rounds at Republican functions the last few months.

Price was attending a regular meeting of Democrats at Gibbs Ruritan Club, where school board member Indya Kincannon was the speaker.

Leland Price, a popular Prosecutor in the District Attorney General Office was rumored and expected to be the Democrat nominee for District Attorney General in 2014. Popular, long term District Attorney General Randy Nichols is retiring. Price co teamed with T.K. Fitzgerald in prosecuting the perpetrators of the heinous Channon Christian and Chris Newsom torture and murder cases. Price has decided to seek the Criminal Court Judge position, currently occupied by Criminal Court Judge Mary Beth Leibowitz. Republican Jason Honeycutt is making the rounds to be the Republican nominee for the same position.

Price’s departure surely deflates the democrat faithfuls hope of being able to effectively challenge Charme Knight, the heavily favored Republican for the District Attorney General position.
