Friday, Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett was on the radio and the topic of Dr. James P. McIntyre, Jr.’s proposal was brought up. Burchett reminded the listeners that Sheriff Jimmy J.J. Jones proposed 20 additional officers for next year. The good Sheriff has pulled that request in light of Dr. McIntyre’s request for 58 additional school security officers. The question is where did the 58 come from if the county which is larger can be covered with an additional 20 officers, it would stand to reason the city could use 10 for a total of 30. But schools is asking for nearly double that. Where did the 58 number come from?

“Where did the 58 number come from?”
The same place that thought Christmas bells hung on a door was adequate security?
Superintendant McIntyre usually appears at public events/hight school events/official events with armed security provided by the Knox County Sheriff’s Department. Last year and the KIL Football Jamboree, he had a uniformed/armed representative from the Sheriff’s Department with him at all times.
Surely, if he’s protected by an armed law enforcement officer, he’d want the same or better for the 54,000 enrolled in a school system he directs. In doing the math, I suspect that there are a number of other potential so called “skool bored ffishals” we desire some armed security while they galavant around Knox County doing their official duty of slowly but surely wrecking a once proud public school system when excellence and achievement were supported by the school administrators, not just an inconsequential natural byproduct of living in a home in West Knoxville with your natural parents.
The Knox County School Board spends tens of millions on the kids who don’t want to learn, don’t care about bettering themselves, and flounder in an evironment where education and effort are not reinforced or a priority at home.
Let’s see if Karen Carson would welcome a federal audit of how the millions of Title I dollars were spent in Knox County, particularly since McIntrye pushed every available Knox County school into the Title I program, with absolutely no parental involvement.
