Knox School Security Is Back In The News

Today, Education Reporter Lydia McCoy over at the local paper produced at the Big Metal Shed on the Hill has this story identifying the four companies that have responded to the school’s security system review. The contract is expected to be valued between $12,000 – $15,000 although until the board votes on one contract we will not know specifically what is the contract cost. The proposers could not have performed any security work for Knox County before and are prohibited from being selected for any work in the future installation, updates and repairs.

The topic of Knox School Security has died down. The announced retirement of former School Security Chief Steve Griffin means that Dr. James P. McIntyre, Jr. needs to hire a School Security Chief. Currently he has appointed an interim chief from within the ranks of the school security department. Surely, with the intense scrutiny that school security has garnered, the Superintendent would do a search for the best, competent and capable Chief. Especially with the hiring of 58 new officers bringing the total number of school security officers to almost 150.
