Calvinist -vs- Non Calvinist, Can’t we all Just Get Along?

My SBC (Southern Baptist Convention) meets tomorrow and Wednesday (June 11 & 12, 2013) Here is an article about the SBC debate on Calvinism from the Tennessean.

When I was born we were members of a Presbyterian Church. About middle school, we attended a Methodist Church. Sometime after high school, I went back to the Presbyterian Church (where I met my wife of 25 plus years). While she and I found our church family home at Eastminister Presbyterian shortly after getting married. I was ordained first as a Deacon and then as an Elder in the Presbyterian Church, while at Eastminister. When moving to West Knox County, we sought a church home. Our neighbors and now life long friends Brad and Cathy M invited us in 1993 or so to attend a relatively small Baptist church in Farragut. First Baptist Concord. We visited and fell in love with our church family. We are still there.

While I have and still believe in Calvinism. I have chosen that it not be an issue to be a hill to die on. I am not willing to debate Calvinism or Non Calvinism. In the grand scheme of things, is it really worth debating? To some I am sure it is. The question I ask is, can’t we all just get along?

Let’s spend our efforts evangelizing and spreading the word of salvation through God’s sacrificial gift of his son (Jesus Christ) death on the cross. For it is through that message that you or others may have been predestined to hear the word and be saved for all eternity.
