Mobile Meals Raises Over $100,000 in Private Sector Contributions

Back in July after the Knox County Commission had approved the County Budget. Second District Commissioner Amy Broyles went before the Commission begging for county tax payer dollars to make up a short fall that Mobil Meals faced. Mayor Burchett believed that if the public were made aware of the need that the private sector would step up and contribute. That did not deter Broyles who begged, almost cried and carried on and even accused a few of her colleagues (during a Commission luncheon) of not having any compassion and predicted mass deaths because these folks would die.

Today, was the Mobile Meal Telethon (all major radio stations and all television stations participated) and lo and behold. As of 5:30 p.m. the contributions exceeded $100,000. The private sector stepped up and the county tax payers are off the hook.

Of course, Commissioner Amy Broyles was a no show before lunch. No surprise there.
