Worlds Fair Park Working Group, Projects and Metro Pulse’s Superiority to the Coverage

Apparently the Worlds Fair Park working group is beginning to wind down. The Metro Pulse has been on top of the workings of the working group. I find it interesting that in this latest Metro Pulse story they detailed a proposal brought forward by Knoxville Businessman William Harry Sherrod of Sherrod and Associates who has Bill Denton who is the Architect of Record on the Sunsphere.

Both men are exceptional contributing citizens within Knoxville and East TN. I have personally known Mr. Sherrod since 1988 when we were both members of Eastminister Presbyterian Church in Holston Hills of East Knoxville. Over the years, Mr. Sherrod has had several different proposals for redevelopment of the Worlds Fair Park. At least one of his proposals I was aware of and would have been an asset to the city and the park. In the past, I have witnessed the territorial sacred cows that certain folks want to protect in the park.

I really hope that the working group is truly working and not just a front to relocate the Clarence Brown Theater off the UT Knoxville campus to the WFP allowing the University to tear down Clarence Brown and build something else on that property.

While the Metro Pulse and I don’t agree often. I credit them and say good job on at least recognizing Mr. Sherrod and Mr. Denton’s effort and not simply ignoring it like the Big Metal Shed on the Hill did.
