Steve Triplett …..

Yesterday’s Compass Knox email detailed the individual Knox County School Board Members evaluation scores for Superintendent Dr. Jon Rysewyk. I had not bothered to look, Thanks to Scott, Jesse and crew for the assist.

The highest to lowest scores is interesting, which they had not listed it this way, but I am. The board member that is in his second year as Vice Chair Steve Triplett scored the Director the lowest.

  • Kristi Kristy (District 9): 4.86
  • Lauren Morgan (District 5): 4.6
  • Travis Wright (District 8): 4.4
  • John Butler (District 1): 4.1
  • Betsy Henderson (District 6): 4.0
  • Patricia Fontenot-Ridely (District 3): 3.5
  • Anne Templeton (District 2): 3.3
  • Katherine Bike (District 4): 3.2
  • Steve Triplett (District 7): 3.06

In September 2024, I had personal conversations with board members about Triplett’s inability to work as part of a team. Thus, why would anyone honor him with a board leadership position.

His background as a Private School Principal ended with less than a respectable conclusion. WBIR reported on it here in July 2022.

Since joining the board on September 1, 2022 he has worked to expand outside curriculum into the public school day as reported here in the Summer of 2023.

He had sought to reduce School Board meetings from 2 to 1, eliminating the Work Session two to three days prior to the voting session.

This month he attempted to add legislative priorities that would have encouraged the legislature to strip funding from the Knox County School district. 🔽

OPTIONAL ADDITIONS FOR BOARD CONSIDERATION:

INCREASE CHARTER FACILITY FUNDING

To expand opportunities for continuous innovation, the Knox County Board of Education urges the General Assembly to make the 2024 $15 million nonrecurring investment in the Charter Facilities Fund a recurring investment.

SUPPORT OF SCHOOL CHOICE, ACROSS DISTRICT, IN-DISTRICT, CHARTER, AND PRIVATE

• The Knox County Board of Education calls on the Tennessee General Assembly to prioritize equitable access to high-quality education for all students, regardless of zip code or socio-economic status. We urge the passage of legislation, including the Education Freedom Act of 2025, to empower families with the opportunity to choose the school that best meets their children’s needs.

• To expand choice for students with disabilities, the Knox County Board of Education calls on the Tennessee General Assembly to allow student with an active IEP and a qualifying disability to simultaneously participate in the Individualized Education Account Program and the Education Savings/Education Freedom Account enabling greater access to funds required for access to special education.

Why would Triplett want to take dollars to build Charter School facilities? One can assume that Triplett believes all the infrastructure in Knox County is okay.

Triplett’s term ends August 31, 2026, Republican Primary May 5, 2026 with the General Election August 6, 2026. No official word if he will attempt to seek re-election in 2026 or not.
