UPDATE: 11 p.m. I have received (at least it is confirmation of the reading and reach of the blog) numerous amounts of information (unknown to me at the time) along with someone much older and experinced in the Sunnyview community than me about this Development Plan. I will say that It is time for Planning and the Developer to do something as long as all environmentals are followed as I have been told since this original posting.
On tomorrow’s Knox Planning agenda, if a Development Plan (item #54) for Property along the Holston River at Asheville Highway would place 3,000 plus parking spaces, sport fields and RV parking area along with some Commercial outparcels. You say that sounds harmless, well until you know the history of the property. My Mom and Dad along with the Sunnyview community raised me from 1973 (I was 7 years old, when we moved home) and until my wife and I moved west in 1992. I still have a vested interest in Sunnyview and East Knox County. Lifetime friends and family are still there.

What happened on this property from 1959 to 1970?
According to locals and a source that called the East Tennessee History Center, it housed The Asheville Highway Dump, reportedly closed in 1970. Please examine the KGIS aerial photos, below.

As you can see massive change occurred to the land from 1959 until 1969 (one year before the Asheville Highway dump reportedly closed). Not a lot has changed from 1969 until today. I have seen massive amounts of dirt continually moved on the property where the dump was supposedly dumped.
Knox Planning yesterday March 11, 2025 held an agenda review meeting watch it here, they talked extensively about this plan, the 3,000 plus parking spaces are to assist and pair with the River Breeze Event Center (the former River Breeze Drive-In).
