Knox Co. Schools Employs Another School Board Member Into a $50,000 a Year Gig

You remember former School Board Member Sam Anderson had a lucrative position in the Andrew Johnson Building and it wasn’t revealed until his swipe card access was checked. Last night, I found this online, former Seventh District School Board Member Kim Sepesi Severance that left office on 8/31/2014 was listed as an employee.

So, today I contacted the Knox Schools Spokesperson Melissa Ogden Tindell and asked the following questions and received the answers back.

1. What is Sepesi Severance current position? Customer Service Manager in the Transportation Dept.

2. When did she begin her current position? 11/16/2015

3. What are her duties? Job Description is Attached. (actually photgraphed below)

4. What was her starting salary? What is her current salary? $52,460 annually

5. Was the position advertised and did she receive the position through a competitive process? Yes to both questions.

6. Who is her Supervisor? Dr. Rick Grubb

7. Please identify her supervisory reports all the way to the Superintendent. Dr. Rick Grubb to Russ Oaks to Dr. Jim McIntyre.

First of all I am very disappointed that a school board member would set out for 13.5 months and return to the school system and according to the website has no gap in her service, a school board member salary is $23,000 a year she sat out for 13.5 months to return to a $52,460 a year job and according to the website, she has had continual employment since 9/1/2010. Was she a ghost employee for 13.5 months?

She announced when she opted not to run for re-election and stepped down that she was going to work for March of Dimes. Was that factual? Her successor, Patty Bounds was elected unopposed. Did Bounds help facilitate the hiring?

Stay tuned.
