Recode Knoxville Passed

Last night the Knoxville City Council approved the written portion of Recode Knoxville on a vote of 7-2 with Council members Mark Campen and Seema Singh being the two dissenters.

Mayor Madeline Rogero held a press conference yesterday morning explaining the two year process and answering questions of the media. Some of the recording from the press conference may be posted later today. Because now the council debate will focus on the map which will be voted on at a called Council meeting on 7/30/2019.

Councilwoman Lauren Rider yesterday morning explained that two years ago her campaign and all of her conversations were about Recode and that the previous Council had voted on Recode. Rider debunked the argument that this came out of no where. Watch Councilwoman Rider below,

Mayoral candidate Fletcher Burkhardt was the first Mayoral candidate to publicly oppose Recode and then Eddie Mannis issued a press release calling for a delay until the next Mayor and Council are seated.

However, public opposition never really appeared to mount in real numbers. A Facebook event for last night to oppose Recode, according to my sources at the meeting last night netted 4 individuals.
