Calfee Announces Re-election with a Food Drive and Giving Back to Roane and Loudon Counties

While some elected officials announce re-election with a shindig and making it all about them. NOT State Rep. Kent Calfee, he is asking folks to bring donations to restock food pantries and animal care pantries.

Calfee

His campaign sent the following email out yesterday and I believe it will be in the Roane County News tomorrow.

You’re invited to join in a time of service for our community. I’ve decided to forego a campaign launch and ask that our community come together in service.

This Friday June 26 from 4-7 pm , we will be beside the old courthouse on Cumberland Street in Kingston collecting non-perishable food items, along with dog and cat food , to help replenish our food pantries. We’ll be serving hot dogs, cold drinks, and I will make a few remarks at 5:30 , so please stop by with your donations for our local pantries and help renew our commitment to make our community stronger.

We did finish our business in Nashville by passing a $39.45 billion balanced budget without raising taxes and prioritized our local schools by fully funding the BEP, Basic Education Program with $50.3 million included for growth and inflation to ensure our classroom receive needed funds. An additional $10.6 million was included for health insurance and retirement for teachers and principals with higher education gaining $50 million in new facility investments. Even in the tightest times and amidst a $500 million shortfall for this year and a projected $1 billion shortfall for 2021, I stood with my colleagues to fight for students, teachers and our local schools and colleges.

Tennesseans will have a $25 million sales tax holiday , which will take place over two weekends in late July and early August 2020 to make sure tax relief is shared by as many people as possible , not just big investors and big businesses.

The budget includes a $19 million investment to strengthen the state’s health care safety network and $7.5 million in new funding will create a children’s behavioral safety network .

Remember, voters 60 years or older or those with an existing illness or limitation can request an absentee ballot at our local election commissions.
