Yesterday, Saturday January 25, 2005 the Tennessee Democrat Party State Executive Committee met to select a new Chair. State Rep. Gloria Johnson, one of the three 2024 State House disrupter’s (but was not expelled) and State Rep. Vincent Dixie were two of seven announced candidates for Chair.
After the Chair contest came down to Rachel Campbell and Rep. Gloria Johnson. a majority chose Rachel Campbell 43-22. Rep. John Ray Clemmons, the State Democrat House second in command abstained on the ballot between Campbell and Johnson, but not when Dixie was on the ballot. That could make for an interesting House Democrat caucus meeting.
Vice Chair (had to be a dude, because Chair was a woman) Nathan Higdon and Darrick Harris were candidates. Higdon was elected 32-30.
Secretary Ryan Scofield – unopposed.
Thanks to Todd Frommeyer’s reporting on his Facebook page for my facts. Frommeyer was once from Knoxville, moved to Hamblen County and is now in South Central Tennessee.
