Knox County Commission May Impose a New Tax on Citizens Tomorrow and Pass Up on a Qualified Appointment

Tomorrow the Knox County Commission is going to meet and if the action in from last weeks work session is any indication, many of the commissioners opponents will be watching to see if the current regime will pass a tax on individuals filing for reief in family court aka Circuit Court Division 4. It appears they are going to create a $5 tax on each case. That is the one court that is not typically a frivolous filing court. This a court where abused spouses (men and women) and children are needing protection of the court.

It will take one spouse to say well I wanted to get out of my situation but my attorney fees and the court costs prohibted me from filing the first time I got slapped, so I had to wait till my arm got broke or some other horrendous abuse story.

When a majority of these commissioners knock on your door wanting your votes in late 2015 and early 2016. Ask them, what did you do on June 22, 2015 in regards to abused spouses. Did you hit them with a new $5 tax?

Also, tomorrow on the agenda the Ninth District Knox County library board position is up for appointment. Commissioner Mike Brown has recommended someone other than Victoria DeFreese. DeFeeese has an advanced degree in library science. She has been a panelist on a library sciences conference in Washington, D.C. this year, 2015.

I guess DeFreese has learned that Brownie ain’t a friend of hers. It’s sad that personal opinion gets in the way of having the best and brightest to serve on these volunteervcounty panels.
