Knox County Clerk’s Office to Re-locate East Satellite Office

Knox County Commission tonight have approved a lease and relocation for the Knox County Clerk‘s office to re-locate from the horrible, terrible location it has been located to a larger, double drive thru with enough parking to handle the month end capacity.

It is Knox County Clerk Sherry Witt hard work and perseverance in correcting the error plagued decisions of her predecessor.

The current location is in a former jewelry store and will re-locate at the nearby East Towne Crossing in the former Food Lion shopping center, near the Home Depot.

The current lease by Witt’s predecessor is $5,061.75 (month) plus $1,265.46 for monthly common area maintenance for a $6,327.21 a month charge or $21.25 per square foot (3,573 square feet)

Witt’s lease that Knox County Commission approved tonight is $6,229.17 (month) it is a gross lease with NO Common Area Maintenance. $13.00 a square foot (5,750 square feet)

increases the square footage by 2,177 square feet, Knox County Trustee will move with the Clerk and now the Knox County Sheriff’s Office will have presence there as well.

There will be ample parking, 130 designated spaces.

One full time drive thru, with a 2nd drive thru for peak times.

There will be a permanent, designated space for the Trustee’s office instead of the cubicle that the predecessor assigned the Trustee.

Sheriff’s Department will have a presence.

Cost savings of $98.04 a month

Lease terms up to 15 years with options

There are 16,000-18,000 transactions at this one location.

Clerk has added Replacement Titles, Handgun Carry Permits replacement/renewals and Real ID/DL to services at this location for the Clerk predecessor.

Clerk’s office was 16.83% above forecast for Excess Fees turned over in FY 2019.

Some of the remodeling of the new location will be performed by Knox County Jail Inmate labor (paint, moving materials and finishing)

The hope is the new location could open in late Spring / early Summer.
