Knox School Board Was For It Before Being Agin It

Last night, the Knox County School Board met. A couple things noteworthy, the policy requiring parents to get permission before recording IEP/504 meetings has been sent to the Policy Review committee.
This is a bad policy……. more on it later.

Back in May the board had consensus to hire a facilitator to “facilitate” public meetings in reviewing and updating the MOA (Memorandum of Agreement) with Knoxville Police Department, Knox County Sheriffs Department and the Schools own Security staff.

Then Knox County Mayor Glenn Jacobs sent a letter discouraging board members from spending money on a facilitator. So the board scared away, last week at the work session an extensive discussion was held and again last night.

Board Member Daniel Watson was absent last night, he informed the board last week that he and his wife would be on a wedding anniversary trip this week. That would be an excused absence, in my opinion.

There were several public speakers last night, including a Carter High School teacher that refuted School Board Member Mike McMillan announcement last week about his districts opinion.

When the vote was cast for a facilitator School Board Members Babb, Satterfield and Owen voted YES. School Board Members McMillan, Horn and Henderson voted NO. School Board members Bounds and Kristy passed.

NO facilitator will be hired. Of course, Horn’s comment that she did not see any changes being made to the MOA was an indication that there is nothing to see here, just a smoke screen that we are listening…. but status quo will remain.
