Knox County Commission to Appoint a Merit Council Member and Alternate on Monday April 25, 2022

On Monday April 25, the Knox County Commission will appoint a member and an alternate member to the Merit System Council for Sheriff’s Employees. Merit Council Member Jim Jennings has served the number of years and is not seeking re-appointment. The alternate member John Marshall has applied as have six other men, all with law enforcement experience.

The applicants in alphabetical order that presented themselves to the Knox County Commission last Monday April 18 at the Commissions work session.

All of these candidates presented well. I was extremely pleased with Manning that nearly was selected last year as the alternate member and Mitchell who has extensive experience not only with law enforcement but the retirement system and HR operations of a large law enforcement agency. Additionally, Dingus being the one minority would help send a message to the minorities in the department that will have representation on the council if he is selected.

You can watch the meeting all two hours and forty minutes here. It includes the presentations of the candidates and a discussion by Commissioners about reverting back to 1974 Merit Council.
