Knox County Has a $1+ Billion Dollar Budget

This evening the Knox County Commission approved a $1+ Billion Dollar Budget with no questions asked. One would have to assume the Commissioners got all their questions answered between Friday mornings announcement and Monday’s 5:30 p.m. voting session.

The only debate came from Commissioner Rhonda Lee one of the last items on the agenda. It is more than $7 million dollars for contracted non-profits. Lee stated that some non-profits do not support what her constituents support. The current non-profits are in second year of a three year schedule. Questions apparently can be asked next year. However, Knox County Senior Deputy Law Director Mike Moyers cautioned about picking and choosing based on opinion when government dollars are being used.

The Knox County Mayor’s Organizational Chart was approved, it is below. Chief Financial Officer is Chris Caldwell, Chief Operating Officer is longtime county bureaucrat Dwight Van de Vate, Senior Director of Communications is Mike Donila.

If one were to drift off to nap, the budget process could a good fictional script of bad guy, good guy battling for three weeks with trash talking, threats of lawsuits and what not with a predetermined, non controversial conclusion like 1, 2, 3 and everyone wins, almost like a wrasslin’ match. Time to wake up from the nap…….
