R. Bentley Marlow Candidate for Knoxville City Council at Large Seat B Takes on Zoning

R. Bentley Marlow has filed a proposed twelve-part amendment to the Knoxville Zoning Ordinance, with Knox Planning. This is believed to be the first time a private citizen has attempted to initiate a zoning ordinance change under the new zoning ordinance.

Current zoning ordinances are overly restrictive, incentivizing large-scale “luxury” developments or single-family homes – but nothing in between.

Bentley, an advisor to Mayor Kincannon’s Developers Roundtable meetings, has proposed amendments designed to sustainably increase the supply of “missing-middle” cost-effective housing for all of Knoxville.

The changes proposed by Bentley incorporate many of the recommendations put forth by the Missing Middle Housing report, suggestions arising from the Mayor’s Developers Roundtable meetings (and subsequent Matrix Solutions report), as well as Bentley’s own experience as a contractor and developer working in the Mechanicsville neighborhood.

R. Bentley Marlow is a candidate for City Council, at large seat B. He is licensed general, electrical, plumbing and mechanical contractor that specializes in restorations and new construction within the Mechanicsville neighborhood.

The campaign headquarters is located at 1100 University Avenue, Knoxville, Tenn. 37921, in a historic mixed-use house fully renovated by Mr. Marlow and his team.

The HQ grand opening event is Friday, 7 July from 5 – 7 pm. All are invited to come and meet Bentley, check out the renovated building, and learn about his initiative LET’S BUILD KNOXVILLE!
