RIP Thomas “Tank” Strickland

Former Knox County Commissioner Thomas “Tank” Strickland a Democrat has passed, you can read his obituary here. Tank was the first Democrat Chairman of the Knox County Commission, back when the Commission was a body of 19, so you had to get to 10 for a majority. The Commission was less controversial among one another. Those were the good ole days.

This Friday July 28 from 9-11 a.m. is the open viewing at Overcoming Believers Church 211 Harriet Tubman Street in Knoxville, TN. Receiving of Friends from 11 a.m. to Noon, Funeral Service at NOON. Interment is at 3 p.m.3:00 PM at Sherwood Memorial Gardens at 3176 Airport Hwy in Alcoa, TN 37701

Back in 2003, when I was the Vice Chairman of the Knox County School Board and I would walk into the Main Assembly Room while Knox County Commission was meeting. The first district still today and then sat at the far left of the dias. Tank would see me walk in and place his hand over his chest and act like it’s beating. It was a reference to me being a heartbeat away from being School Board Chairman. I would say to him and we would both laugh “Tank, like that even matters”.

When he was with the City of Knoxville I would stop by his office I would stop by his office and check on him and he always more concerned with me than him. That is the kind of guy, Tank is/was!

REST WELL TANK, TILL WE MEET AGAIN my friend.
