Why is a TV Station Reporting On a Political Candidate Whining?

Every candidate that does not benefit from an independent expenditure mailer, cries fowl.

When I interview a candidate on the BrianHornback Experience podcast i never mention their opponents name.

However, President’s Day was most assuredly a slow news day, as the Knoxville ABC affiliate ran a story of Angie Goethert opponent complaining about a PAC mailer supporting Goethert.

Her opponent has posted on Facebook, ”I was told my opponent was attending a PAC meeting last week with 2 other Republican candidates perhaps talking about school choice. Can’t be confirmed yet.”

First, that would be illegal, the PACs would not jeopardize their ability to support like minded candidates and Goethert also would not jeopardize her ability to serve the students, parents and community in the Third District by violating state election laws.

Supporters for Goethert’s opponent have complained on Facebook about signs disappearing. Every campaign loses signs in every election. In fact, the City of Knoxville Knox County Litter and Town of Farragut pick-uo hundreds of signs every election because they are in the right of way.

Goethert has not complained about her opponent campaigning during a school day while he was a Substitute teacher, interrupting a classroom to give a mini speech about participating in the classroom instruction that was recorded on video and placed on his campaign facebook until he took it down.

Campaigns are tough, they get emotional, they get heated. Friends and Families of candidates get as involved as the candidates themselves. The least stressed person in campaigns is me. Because I am the one who goes out and records, covers and gives my color commentary.

Of course even this election, theres lots of commentary even a facebook post about how I am involved with a community newspaper in “election interference” in the third district school board race. 1) I don’t work with anyone else or organization. 2) Advertisements on a blog for a candidate is not election interference.

This blog was in operation before I was elected Knox GOP Chairman in 2005, it was in operation when I was elected in a contested 2021 appointment process to fill the unexpired term of the SEC seat. It was in operation before 2022 when the Republican voters of TN District Six elected me to be the State Executive Committeeman.

Every candidate needs to do what they do to get the most votes and stop worrying about what your opponent is doing or not doing. March 5th the Primary will be over and we can gear up to do it again for August 1.
