Victor Ashe at the Halls Republican Club

Last evening, Former Knoxville Mayor Victor Ashe was the Speaker at the Halls Republican Club. The event was held at a private residence. Ashe first talked about the 2016 Republican National Convention. He was a delegate from TN.

He discussed a couple events outside the convention, that he attended. The Wall Street Journal hosted a breakfast where Peggy Noonan was a Speaker and another day Donald J Trump, Jr. was a Speaker and they conducted Q and A’s. Ashe has always enjoyed Noonan’s writings and he was impressed with Trump, Jr. Also the Atlantic Monthly magazine hosted an event where one of our TN Congressman Marsha Blackburn was the featured Speaker.

Ashe then talked about his selection as Ambassador to Poland. He said that President George W Bush had come to Knoxville for a fundraiser for Van Hillary, he was invited to ride on Air Force One back to Washington. In that conversation, W mentioned that he thought Ashe would be a great Ambassador. Ashe was then called at some time later and when asked Ashe mentioned Poland. Of course, it was ultimately up to the President where and when an appointment would be made

Ashe then talked about the history of Poland and about his time there. At the American embassy, there are about 540 employees and 150 are Americans.

Ashe talked about the effect of the Catholic Church in Poland and some of his activities while in Poland.

When Ashe was introduced, it was mentioned that he was George W Bush roommate in college. Ashe revealed he doesn’t know where that story started, he does nothing to dispute the story, however, he reveals it is not true and he said when he is asked directly, he correctly informs people they were NOT roommates.

Some questions I could have asked, but refrained.

How did the similarities between Poland’s history of being constantly invaded and your own 16 year history of annexation as Mayor of Knoxville compare?

Which job did he enjoy most?

What did he think that his record as Mayor he was found to have violated the civil rights of employees?

How does he justify the journalist code of ethics when as a writer that maxes out contributions to politicans he writes about?
