Is Knox Schools Throwing a Token to It’s Employees?

Knox County School Board is voting tonight on a recommendation of Superintendent Bob Thomas to give all Certified Teachers a one time $1,000 bonus and non-certified employees (non teachers) a one time $500 bonus.

They have been throwing $300 and $500 bonuses to Substitute teachers every 15 or so days that a substitute works in the same pay period.

As a former School Board Representative 2000-2004, I would have been asking how to incentivize the employees that are there and continue to be there.

A great many of the school employees have maxed out of the step raises, I also include all the support staff at the Central Office, in my commentary.

Of course it’s NOT all the School administration and school boards fault, Knox County is spending millions of dollars giving away the AJ Building for a long term lease with the federal government that only makes sense to government bureaucrats with cronyism capital that enriches pals and a probably a ghost employee that reportedly worked on the deal, with no work product to show for it.

But I digress on the mid week hump day.

Morale may be improved slightly with a one time bonus, but to really improve morale maybe a consistent bonus like is thrown at substitutes would be effective in the long term as these employees have and are facing the pandemic everyday.
