There are several policy changes up for changes. I will highlight a few.

Agenda Item 7A is the main one I call out and it is policy B-180 reducing the 5 (five) minutes for each citizen to speak at Public Forum to 3 (three) minutes per citizen. Find the policy and proposed changes here

Agenda Item 7G proposing to RESCIND (do away with) policy I-180 Adult Apprenticeship Program policy, check it out here.

Agenda 7J, they are proposing removing language to policy I-250 the Off Campus Trips policy, specifically Student Foreign Travel Study. The new proposed language reads, “Knox County Schools will not approve foreign travel. Any student or teacher who takes part in foreign travel or foreign study will do so of their own accord and through an outside agency.”  Question: it seems to some that central office travel to the other end of Gay Street may be foreign travel, so about that.

Agenda 7L, changing policy I-370 Graduation Requirements is to require passage of a Civics Exam, check out the change here.

Agenda 7M, proposing to policy I-440 is changing significantly (previously Nutritional Standards for Food Items Sold) is Wellness Policy, check out the changes here.

Agenda 7N, additionally, Policy I-441 Wellness Policy – Physical Activity will be RESCINDED, check it out here. It appears much of Physical Activity is being written into the I-440 policy.

Item 10E on the agenda is Discussion and Possible Action Superintendent Search. Look for the Board to engage with TSBA (Tennessee School Boards Association) to conduct the search. TSBA’s Executive Director Tammy Grissom was interviewed by the board this past week (9/29/2021) during the work session, you can watch that meeting, here.
