Knox County Schools Spent $86k Plus on the Scott Bros. McFee Road Farragut Property

Back in August 2022, the lame duck Knox County Schools Board and Knox County Commission entered into a sales contract for the “Scott Brothers McFee Road ” Property for a Southwest Knox County Solution.

It was not until here December 4, 2022 when the sales contract was trying to be amended that this blog began blowing up the irresponsible deal. Ultimately, the School Board let the contract expire, here on January 7, 2023 and here on January 13, 2023.

A request for the amount of money spent on the property was sent by me, below is what I was provided.

Knoxville’s Community Dev Corp $36,403.14 (appraisal, geotechnical, survey, traffic study, concept development, administrative costs.)

TN Valley Title Insurance Co. $50,000.00 earnest money (2 installments of $25k ea.)

Total $86,403.14

Now, to request of KCDC for the details of the appraisal, geotechnical survey, traffic study, concept development, along with details of the administrative cost.

What would $86,403.14 have been better used for other than a failed land deal? Two classroom educators? Four to Five educational assistants?

The Town of Farragut Board of Mayor and Alderman in June 2023 voted to buy the Scott Brothers McFee Road Property. The Farragut Mayor signed an intent to Purchase in late August 2023 and will ultimately be bound to the purchase by the end of this month, here on September 18, 2023.

In my information from KCS Communications, i was told that the list of properties that i had received in request of the 21 properties that Dr. Garfield Adams said KCS investigated before settling on the Boruff Road Farragut property. Three of those properties were inadvertently on the list and that those three are for a ”South Knox Solution”.

KCS Communications sent an updated aka ”corrected list”, it included the lacrosse field, which will surely please the lacrosse parents and booster club. The Town of Farragut was noted as the one suggesting the lacrosse field. Also interesting the Realtor notes and KCS notes are now one column, with no identifying author for the notes. So, I kinda liked the previous notes I received that identifies the Realty agency KCS relies on and the Realtor notes, the Realtor notes were graded slightly better by me then the staff notes. NOT that my grades matter much.

I don’t recall the Board voting on a South Knox Solution. I have asked a couple board members about a South Knox Solution. One says there was a vote. One says there hasn’t been a vote that they recall.

Just curious, if there isn’t a board approved vote for a South Knox Solution, should Dr. Adams be out looking for land? Who would authorize that time spent looking for land? The Superintendent?
