Time to end taxpayer funded primaries?

Remind me again why taxpayers should have to continue funding this nonsense?

I guess he wants to annoint a King or Queen that he and his few minions support and screw the majority opinion within this or any community. But then again that is the only way his Democrat candidates can get into office.

This is the saem liberal blog that the two undesireable’s known as Clark and Bean post allot of garbage about you on.

When are you going to take the gloves off and finish these two trolls? You have enough information on both of them to finish them off.

    Just do it.

I’m sorry, but you seem to not understand that the state-funded primary is not the only means to choosing a candidate. Perhaps you’re so uninformed of other parties as to realize that most minor parties, the LP included, choose a candidate by party-funded conventions. The LP has done so since it’s inception circa 1971. This is just as a legitimate way to choose a candidate as the state-funded primary and doesn’t cost the taxpayers nothing. Personally I don’t think I should have to pay for the primaries of political parties I hold no support for what-so-ever.

I understand how the LP works. However, with regards to the majority parties a convention type selection process is not inclusive of every eligible voter.

It also eliminates potential candidates. Because as long as you are popular with a minority of citizens. The majority that attend a convention then you get the nomination. Let’s review so that you understand my knowledge of the LP. In the 70′ to current you all nominated for President: John Hospers, Roger MacBride, Ed Clark, David Bergland, Ron Paul – in 1988, he then deserted the LP for a return to the Republican Party, Andre Marrow, Harry Browne and Michael Badnarik.

The process with which the Republicans and Democrats select candidates give top tier candidates and bottom tier candidates the same chance. A Duncan Hunter, Tom Tancredo, Ron Paul have a legitimate chance.

Your idea becomes nothing other than a popularity beauty contest. That may work well in a third world country but not here in the free world.

For your information, in the past the Knox County Republicans use to select its candidates through a convention and in the early years I attended such conventions. For example, the only reason Earl Hoffmeister ran for Superintendent of Schools as a Democrat is because he couldn’t get the Republicans to select him over Mildred Doyle. The Democrats had no body to run, they then selected Earl. He certainly used the system not because he believed in the Democrat Party but because it was his only path to be a candidate.
