Knox County Commission and Knox County Merit System/Council for Sheriffs Employees

Tonight the Knox County Commission took on the Knox County Law Director and the “perceived stripping” of the Knox County Merit System/Council for the Sheriffs Employees. The Commission postponed the item until January 24, 2022 to have a Knox County Legislator to request the TN Attorney General for an opinion.

Law Director David Buuck is saying that previous Law Directors Dale Workman, Richard Beeler, Mike Moyers, John Owings, Bill Lockett, Joe Jarrett, Richard “Bud” Armstrong and himself (Buuck) since September 1, 2020 have missed conflict with how the Merit System/Council with TN State Law.

Buuck keeps referring to a current grievance hearing that is supposedly about Sheriff Spanky Spangler taking a drive home car away from one employee. As I have posted here there are according to the Sheriffs office 449 drive home cars, why has Spanky Spangler pulled one drive home car from a female non uniformed administrative employee that has been with the Sheriffs Department since the early 1990’s. However, the following non uniformed administrative employees do have drive home cars, Human Resources Lysette Aviles, Attorney Butch Bryant, Purchasing Agent Hugh Holt, Attorney Mike Ruble and Attorney Randy Nichols.

According to my sources within the department, Sheriff Spanky Spangler has placed an individual in the Office of Professional Standards that has not met all the qualifications for the position. If someone meets the qualifications, another grievance hearing could be in the future.
