“The Right Reverend” David Green is Gone but Will Never Be Forgotten

Quillen David Green passed away this week, he was a good friend to nearly everyone. He had a procedure on Monday at Vanderbilt, Tuesday brought a event and this morning it was determined that he had passed. That is a simple explanation to what happened.

However, he was a friend, a good friend, one that always worried about others and never complained about some of his own circumstances in life. He was a math teacher initially and was called into the ministry of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ through the United Methodist Church.

When I first met David, he was Pastor at Norwood United Methodist Church and was very active in the Norwood Kiwanis Club. A few years ago, he went to West Knox Kiwanis Club and has been active in the state organization. His last pastorate was at Pleasant Hill United Methodist in East Knox County. That is my old stomping grounds, Granny and Papaw are buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, I would always remind him to be good. Cause of my Granny and Papaw. In December, he retired from the ministry and he and his wife Jill began their life of his retirement.

Mine and David’s good friend Walter Wojnar and I attended his last service at Pleasant Hill and he retired in style. Walter and David could be brothers and where you saw one you saw the other. How do we carry on without David? One step, One moment, One Day at a time.

David served as a Chaplain for both the Knoxville Police Department and the Knox County Sheriffs Office. He was always there.

David was a part of our Tuesday Morning Breakfast Club on Monday and the round table discussions just won’t be the same. Here are some pictures of our friend, until we see you again David God Speed.

David is the furthest one away in the blue shirt. Walt Wojnar is in the white shirt and former Knox County School Board Member Cindy Buttry is preparing to educate the Tuesday Morning Breakfast Club about something from her phone.

A funny story:

This morning I was sitting in the car and Walt called to tell me that David was gone. I then called someone and said David is gone. all of the sudden a bird hit the window of my car. I text messaged Walt and said he is still with us, he just threw a feathered something and hit my window. Yep, he is gone but will never be forgotten.

Another good friend of David, Walt and mine is the Vol Historian, here is an ad for his latest book.

My sympathies are with you in the passing of your friend.

My wife and I lost a dear friend this week from the Palmetto State. We will miss him dearly, but as I told my wife, we have a great guardian angel watching over us.
