Dr. Briggs (State Senate Candidate) Believes If You Are a County Employee That Speaks Out, You Should be FIRED

There has been much discussion about Dr. Briggs (the County Commissioner that wants to be State Senator) voting last week not to protect school teachers that speaks out against stricter than normal requirements ie. testing.

Briggs says if they speak out the county should be able to stop it like any other business would. Read Jake Mabe’s column here.

Broyles is sponsoring amendments to ordinances ensuring that county employees are protected when speaking out against employers without risk of termination. She cites both teachers who have spoken up recently and county employees who want to campaign for someone other than their bosses.

“I’m going to use Commissioner Broyles’ earlier words against her. This is a solution waiting on a problem,” McKenzie said.
(I looked around for Stacey Campfield. But I digress.)

Rick Briggs said free speech in this case needs limits. “Tennessee is an at-work employer state,” he said, adding that he wouldn’t be in favor of something that would protect an employeewho spoke maliciously, giving the county no resource to stop it.

Watch Briggs cast the ONLY no vote on protecting First Amendment Speech and Protection of retribution.

Nope. It’s a preventive move, because McIntyre and fellow travelers seem more concerned with CYA and retribution than actually addressing the issues.

Briggs gets his news from McIntyre. McIntyre tells Briggs what do to, Briggs does it.

Never forget, Briggs gutted the Ethics Committee because they heard a complaint about Mike Ragsdale. What has Briggs done for the people in the eight years he has been on Commission? If we had a fully functioning Knox County Ethics Committee, School Board member Mike McMillan could go before them. But no, he has no where to turn. His own School Board Ethics Committee committed fraud when they falsely accused him of a violation. Briggs stopped the checks and balances we need. And he wants to be State Senator?

Honestly, the “republican” party in this state is a bunch of criminals. As a registered republican, you the republican party of Tennessee, are very quick to to assume because you are “educated”, that doesn’t mean you’re intelligent. I’m tired of the “good ole boy” state. This is a red state secretly purple. You alienate people, silence them, keep people on their “red neck welfare”, while you preach God’s word. Are you really a republican? Limit speech, fire people who disagree with you, alienate people, discriminate, and keep people in the same pattern of poverty, who are we voting for????
    What are you voting for!!
